About Dr. Newell
Dr. Bill Newell knew by the age of 15 that he wanted to be an orthodontist. After having braces himself, he worked throughout high school and college for his own orthodontist, and mentor, Dr. Jeffrey Jordan in Alpharetta, GA. After graduating with honors from Georgia Tech, Dr. Newell attended the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry where he graduated at the top of his class. In addition to achieving the highest score on part one of the National Boards Exam, he was awarded numerous scholarships and inducted into the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Newell was then accepted to the orthodontic residency program at MCG where he completed an additional two-and-a-half years of training and earned his certificate in orthodontics. With a strong desire to continually further his education, Dr. Newell spends hundreds of hours attending post-graduate courses around the country. His commitment to excellence and years of clinical experience enable him to successfully manage all types of orthodontics cases, from simple crowding to complex surgical cases and TMJ disorders.Prior to opening Newell Orthodontics in the spring of 2007, Dr. Newell practiced orthodontics for three years with Drs. Waugh & Allen in their Athens, Watkinsville, and Winder locations. He is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Georgia Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists and the Georgia Association of Orthodontists, where he currently serves as the Secretary and Treasurer. Dr. Newell is a past president of the Clarke County Dental Society and a founding member of the Georgia Damon Study Club. He also serves on the Board of Directors of The Tree House, Inc. and is a member of the Rotary Club of Jefferson, the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce and a graduate of the Leadership Jackson County Class of 2009. ![]() Dr. Newell and his wife, Katie, live in Jefferson with their son, Parker, and their two chocolate Labrador Retrievers, Brady and Cooper. When he is not busy creating beautiful smiles, Dr. Newell enjoys playing golf, spending time outdoors, cooking and traveling with his family and friends. |
