About Dr. Newell

Dr. Bill Newell knew by the age of 15 that he wanted to be an orthodontist. After having braces himself, he worked throughout high school and college for his own orthodontist, and mentor, Dr. Jeffrey Jordan in Alpharetta, GA.

After graduating with honors from Georgia Tech, Dr. Newell attended the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry where he graduated at the top of his class. In addition to achieving the highest score on part one of the National Boards Exam, he was awarded numerous scholarships and inducted into the national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Newell was then accepted to the orthodontic residency program at MCG where he completed an additional two-and-a-half years of training and earned his certificate in orthodontics.

With a strong desire to continually further his education, Dr. Newell spends hundreds of hours attending post-graduate courses around the country. His commitment to excellence and years of clinical experience enable him to successfully manage all types of orthodontics cases, from simple crowding to complex surgical cases and TMJ disorders.

Prior to opening Newell Orthodontics in the spring of 2007, Dr. Newell practiced for three years with Drs. Waugh & Allen in their Athens, Watkinsville, and Winder locations. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Association of Orthodontists, the Georgia Association of Orthodontists and is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dr. Newell is currently serving as the President of the Clarke County Dental Society and is actively involved in the Georgia Damon Study Club. He is also a member of the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, the 2008-2009 Leadership Jackson class and serves as a mentor with Lindsay’s Legacy at Jefferson Middle School.

Dr. Newell and his wife, Katie, live in Jefferson with their two chocolate labs, Brady and Cooper. When he’s not busy creating beautiful smiles, Dr. Newell enjoys golf, the outdoors, cooking and traveling with his family and friends.
